Danish Justice Foundations is primarily focusing on Southeast Asia where two countries in particular demand significant attention.
India:
1,2 billion inhabitants. According to official records from the Indian government, New Delhi has the highest amount of rapes per capita in this enormous country. As the result of this, a rape in the Indian capital is reported every 18th hour.
Shockingly, is it often standard procedure to punish the rape victim, rather than the actual rapist.
The government is however currently occupied with changing these circumstances, in an effort to punish the offender and improve women’s legal status.
Bangladesh:
Based on GDP per capita, Bangladesh is currently on the same level as Denmark was in the 1840s. Bangladesh is one of the world’s poorest and most densely populated countries with more than 150 million people. Roughly half of the population is living below the poverty line. Poverty and legal security must be addressed, there mostly likely is strong correlation between poverty and the lack of opportunities for obtaining fair trial.
Danish Justice Foundations is a small organization, that must continue to be small in Denmark, but have great impact on location, which is why we put our faith in ambitious local volunteers in the respective countries and remote areas, rather than a large administrative organ in Denmark.
